The black duiker ranges from Guinea and Sierra Leone to Nigeria , west of the lower Niger River (Wilson & Reeder, 1993; East, 1996). The distribution map was obtained by acquiring and overlaying the two maps in Haltenorth & Diller (1980) and Kingdon (1971-77). This was subsequently updated on the basis of specific country maps found in East (1990), as indicated by Dr. R. East (23 June ‘97), who underlined that this duiker, like all forest duikers, no longer occurs continuously throughout the west Africa area marked as "certain".
Categorical-discrete (CD) distribution model
The species occurs in rainforest but also in riverine galleries and forest patches within the Guinean savanna zone (Kingdon, 1997; East, 1990).
